What makes for a $tn idea?

As early-stage investors, we spend a lot of time thinking about this question. Who can be the next Amazon? Which verticals are left undisrupted? What new idea could change our lives forever?

This (new) year, we’ve decided to take a stab at answering some of these questions. Specifically, we’ve investigated 4 key verticals (E-commerce, FoodTech, FinTech, and SalesTech), and tried to answer the following questions for each:

• What are the existing gaps/challenges?
• Who are the leading/emerging players?
• How did this vertical evolve since inception?
• And finally, with the above context in mind: Which areas present significant growth opportunities?

Some of the answers we came up with seriously blew our minds away but we would love to ignite a discussion about them and welcome all feedback, comments, and ideas. Who knows, maybe we’ll even manage to inspire future founders.

Ultimately, while 2021 generally marked another strong year for startups and the VC world, we feel that there is plenty of room left for innovation, and are very excited about what the future holds.
